About Anne and Jack Rudloe

Directors Jack and Anne Rudloe are the authors of nine published books including The Sea Brings Forth, The Erotic Ocean, The Living Dock, The Wilderness Coast, Time of the Turtle, Search For The Great Turtle Mother, Potluck, Butterflies on a Sea Wind, and Priceless Florida. They have also published 35 magazine articles and 89 newspaper columns on marine life.

Through their efforts Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory has enjoyed extensive press coverage since its inception. A total of 128 newspaper articles on the facility and its programs, as well as 7 nationally broadcast television features are in the GSML archives. In addition, GSML's activism in protecting natural resources has been the subject of a further 501 articles in the archive. Between 1966-2000, 35 nationally distributed feature articles, two book chapters, 18 national television features, 35 regional television features and 24 national and regional radio stories appeared highlighting Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory and its activities. An additional 12 national newspaper stories, four national television stories, and eight national radio stories have appeared about the edible jellyfish project. In 2001, a national TV piece on sharks was broadcast on Fox News Network as well as several regional pieces on sharks.

Where the Sea Reveals its Secrets, a 17-minute video highlighting GSML's field trip program produced in association with award winning Tallahassee producer Victor Nunez (feature films include Flash of Green, Gal Youngun, Eulee's Gold), is used to promote the aquarium and provided to teachers by request to GSML for $10.00. Another video, A Naturalist's Quest; WUFT's Visions in Nature series, a 30-minute documentary featuring Jack Rufloe as a Florida environmental writer, is available from WUFT Online Store, Gainesville, Florida.



In addition to the books listed on our site, Anne and Jack Rudloe have contributed two chapters in the just published anthology "'Between Two Rivers," a collection of works by local Florida Panhandle writers. The anthology draws on local storytelling traditions and features essays about the ecological and cultural heritage of the Red Hills and Gulf Coastal Lowlands including Bald Point and Apalachicola.
